Every company has principles by which it operates, though many do so only implicitly. We’ve intentionally made our operating principles explicit. They guide our short- and long-term decisions, including who we work with and how we work. Here are our guiding principles. ## As a company ### **Elevate the conversation.** We strive for excellence and want to influence the conversation broadly as well. Every piece of content we publish, every work product we ship, we do so with the intention of elevating the standards. We want to level up SEO, content marketing, and organic growth through our work and voice. ### **Cultivate superstars.** Everyone we work with (clients, team members, and contractors) should feel like they are leveling up by working with us. Everyone has strengths, and we do our best to identify those strengths and put people in the best position to grow and excel. ### **Play long-term games with long-term people.** We play [the long game](https://beomniscient.com/podcast/) and choose clients, team members, contractors, and partners accordingly. We’re not interested in short-term wins at the expense of long-term objectives. ### **This should be fun.** There will always be tasks that we have to do, but our work, our strive for excellence, and the people we surround ourselves with should give us energy—not diminish it. ## As a team ### **Progress over perfection.** Perfection is an excuse for procrastination. Rather than obsessing over process, we win by acting often and quickly. We must have a bias toward action and process should enable progress, not impede it. Take calculated bets with the information you have, then learn and iterate. Don’t overplan. What action can you take today or this week to move yourself forward? What have you done this week? ### **Do your best work.** We strive for excellence in how we operate and how we work with clients. Don’t let perfect be the enemy of good…but don’t let good be the enemy of great. We do our best work and don’t settle for less. We learn from mistakes and continually iterate on our work. There is enough mediocrity in the world. We don’t need to add to that. ### **Intellectual honesty.** We operate with transparency and contribute honest, unfiltered knowledge and experience to each other and clients. We leave our egos at the door. We lead with curiosity and a desire to learn. We admit it when we’re wrong or when we don’t have the answer. “I don’t have a great answer for you now, but I’ll find out,” is a better response than posturing. ### **Make the boat go faster.** There will always be distractions. We focus on the most impactful work for the client and the business. We do not work on things merely to stay busy. Busyness is not to be confused with impact. Ruthlessly prioritize the most impactful work. ### **Always be learning.** We’re hungry to learn and grow as people and professionals. We view challenges and failures as opportunities to learn and grow, not setbacks.
